Terms of Use

Effective 18 September 2026 · These terms apply to the Kombolela mobile game ("the Game") and this website.

In short: Kombolela is free to play. Play fair, do not try to cheat or break the Game, and remember that cosmetics have no money value. The Game is provided as it is, and we can update or discontinue it.

1. Acceptance

By installing or playing the Game you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Game.

2. Who may play

The Game is intended for players aged 14 and older. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the Game with the permission of a parent or guardian who agrees to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and play the Game on devices you own or control, for your private, non-commercial entertainment. The Game is licensed, not sold. All rights not expressly granted remain with us.

4. Fair play and acceptable use

You agree not to:

modify, decompile or reverse-engineer the Game, or create cheats, bots or tools that interfere with it;
interfere with the servers or services the Game uses, or access them other than through the Game;
use the Game for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten or harm other people, including in any future online mode;
copy, sell, rent or redistribute the Game or its artwork, sounds or code.

5. Virtual items

Outfits, Beacon styles, name tags and other cosmetics are earned by playing. They are virtual items with no monetary value, cannot be transferred or exchanged for money, and may be changed or removed when the Game is updated. The Game currently contains no purchases; if purchases are introduced, additional terms will be shown before you buy.

6. Accounts

The Game may create an anonymous player identity automatically so that online features can work. You are responsible for the device on which it is used. We may suspend or delete a player identity that is used to break these Terms.

7. Intellectual property

The Game, including the Kombolela name, characters, artwork, sounds, code and text, is owned by the Kombolela team and protected by copyright and other laws. Kombolela is inspired by a traditional East African playground game; the traditional game itself belongs to everyone.

8. Third-party services

The Game is distributed through Google Play and the Apple App Store and uses Google Firebase for its online identity. Those services have their own terms, which also apply to your use of them. Apple and Google are not responsible for the Game or for any support, warranty or claims relating to it.

9. Updates, availability and changes

We may update, change or discontinue the Game or any feature at any time, with or without notice, and may require you to install updates to keep playing. Online features depend on networks and services we do not control and may be unavailable from time to time.

10. Disclaimer of warranties

The Game is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Game will be error-free or uninterrupted.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Game. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Game will not exceed the amount you paid us for the Game in the 12 months before the claim (which, for a free game, is zero). Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Termination

You can stop using the Game at any time by uninstalling it. We may end or suspend your licence if you break these Terms. Sections 5, 7, 10, 11 and 14 survive termination.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may revise these Terms; the effective date above will change when we do. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the revised Terms. Material changes will also be announced in the Game.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United Republic of Tanzania, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the courts of Tanzania, except where the law of your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings there.
